St Richards Hospice use Txtlocal to Raise Funds for Charity Event
Txtlocal, helped St Richards Hospice raise £1000 through their SMS text service. The charity fundraising event was held at Worcester Warriors Sixways Stadium, on Saturday 26thSeptember, with 9,510 spectators in attendance.
The fundraising event involved St Richards Healthcare Assistant Sam Webb, who very bravely put herself forward to have all her long blond hair shaved off in front of rugby fans. In return for Sam Webb’s immense spirit spectators were encouraged to make a text donation of £3.00 directly from their mobile phones.
On behalf of St Richards, www.txtlocal.com provided two complimentary banners stands to be displayed on the pitch during half time featuring the words: Text SHAVE to 60777. Spectators then simply sent a quick text to make their donation while watching from the stands.
Tricia Cavell, Hospice Fundraising Manager said “The text service provided the best option for collecting funds on the day. The service made it easy for people to make an instant donation by simply sending a text message while watching from the stands.”
Cavell continued “We are very grateful to Sam for raising money in this way and in total she has raised over £1000.”
According to Txtlocal, more and more charities are signing up for their low cost text service in a bid to raise funds and support. Highly recognised charities such as Comic Relief and Children in Need often use text communication to encourage donations and this trend is growing amongst smaller charities such as St Richards.
Txtlocal Director Alastair Shortland said “Text works well as a fundraising tool as it makes it really easy and convenient for supporters to simply make a donation from their mobile handset.”
St Richards Hospice introduced SMS text messaging into their communications strategy in early 2009 to help promote the annual Midnight Walk held last July.
