Email to SMS Gateway

Our Email to SMS Gateway allows you to send and receive SMS text messages from any email program (e.g. Outlook, MSN, Gmail, Hotmail & Yahoo) or application with email functionality (monitoring tools, databases, websites etc.).

You can add as many email addresses to your account as necessary, all of which will be able to both send and receive the text messages.

Example Uses

There are thousands of example uses for SMS texting, here are just a few:

  • Staff Communication
Send texts to work colleagues, customers or clients from your email program.
  • Instant Urgent Texts
With email to SMS you don't need to log on to your Txtlocal account. Simply send a text message straight from your email inbox. It's an easy, quick and effective way of sending an urgent message.
  • 2 Way Communication
A member of staff can send an email directly from their PC to a sales agent’s mobile while they are on the move, reminding them of appointments. The sales agent can then confirm the appointment by sending a quick text back, which is then picked up as an email by the member of staff.
  • System Alerts
Some existing system monitoring applications send out an email with urgent and critical alerts. Setting this up to send an email as an SMS, means, it would be received and read sooner meaning a crisis could be avoided.

Multiple Recipients
You can send the same message to multiple recipients by adding more addresses in either the To or CC fields.

All texts will arrive addressed from your default sender name. If you wish to change this, use sender= in the subject line to send your messages from any 11 character name or up to 14 digit telephone number.
Message Termination
At the end of the message add: ##. Anything after the ## will not be sent.
Message Length Billing
You can type a message up to 612 characters. You are billed for the following message lengths:
  • 0 - 160 = 1 credit.

  • 307- 459 = 3 credits.
  • 460 - 612 = 4 credits.
Message Start
In some rare cases, you may need to let us know where your message starts. If you need to, add #%# before your message.
Bulk Recipients
In addition to placing bulk recipients in the To and CC lines of the email, you can also place them after the ## terminator. For example:

Don't forget the meeting at 12:30pm.##
0777000000@txtlocal.co.uk
0777000001@txtlocal.co.uk
0777000002@txtlocal.co.uk<

As with any message, the text after the ## will not be sent to the handset, but a copy of the text will be sent to all the listed numbers.
Group Sending
You can send an Email to SMS message to a group you've already created on your Txtlocal account.
To do this, send an email tlgrpXXXX@txtlocal.co.uk, where XXXX is the group ID you want to send to.
You can find the ID of a group by clicking on View Group ID in the advanced section of the Reports page in your Txtlocal account.

If you wish to receive replies to your texts then you can do this by either of the following 2 methods:

Send As Your Mobile Number
If you set your Sender Name as your own mobile number then the text will appear as if you have sent it from your own mobile. If the recipient then replies the message will automatically go back to your mobile phone. This is free.
Dedicated Inbound Number
With your own Dedicated Inbound Number you rent a normal mobile number (e.g. 07786 xxx xxx) from us. This then sits in your account on our system. Any texts you then want replies to you select this number as your Sender Name. All replies are then forwarded to your email address/s and stored in your Inbox.
